Unraveling Sources and Climate Conditions Prevailing during the Deposition of Neoproterozoic Evaporites Using Coupled Chemistry and Boron Isotope Compositions (?11B): The Example of the Salt Range, Punjab, Pakistan

In this study, the ion concentrations (K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl?, SO42?, Br?, NO3?, and B3+) boron isotope compositions (?11B) of 34 halite brines samples from Neoproterozoic Salt Range Formation, Punjab, Pakistan were studied. Relation among B3+ vs. ?11B B3+, vs K+ observed, they indicated that these elements originate multiple sources end members identified as seawater, B desorption clays, meteoric precipitation. Halite area under study displayed a Na-HCO3-type to Ca-Cl type sedimentary basin deposition, on 1/B plot. Molar ratios B/Cl revealed addition in some studied clay minerals. This diagenetic clays is consequence stress driven mechanism, generated proximity decollement zone. Results confirm number stable isotopes fractionate between brine low. The Formation vary +2.1 +24.4‰, compared +17.3 +26.1‰ salt pool brines, suggest are controlled by sources. positive relationship content corresponding indicates higher salinity drier paleoclimate conditions during formation process, associated with high evaporation rate Late time.
